Kim Cattrall has swapped sleek Manhattan for gray Liverpool to accept an honorary fellowship from a university in her English home town.

The “Sex and the City” star was named a fellow of Liverpool John Moores University in northwest England on Monday in recognition of her contribution to the arts.

The 53-year-old actress was born in the English port city but was raised largely in Canada.

She told hundreds of graduating students packed into Liverpool’s Anglican cathedral that the honor was “a dream come true.”

Wearing academic cap and gown, Cattrall told the audience that she was proud of her Liverpool roots, and said “whoever said ‘you can’t go home again’ didn’t come from Liverpool.”

Sharon Stone has never shied away from controversy, either on screen (see ‘Basic Instinct’ ) or off (see her comments on China’s earthquake being “karma”).

Now, according to DeadlineHollywood, the actress is joining the cast of the sure-to-be-protested comedy ‘Sweet Baby Jesus,’ which transplants the nativity story to ’70s-era Bethlehem, Maryland. Since the events play out at Christmas time, the locals begin expecting a Second Coming.

Stone will play the mother of pregnant hippie chick Mary, a role once reportedly offered to another 50-something sex symbol, Kim Cattrall.

In yet more cast changes, Adrien Brody is now in final negotiations to play Mary’s boyfriend Joseph, instead of Sam Rockwell. The lead role of Mary was once going to be played by Britney Spears; instead, 19-year-old British singer Pixie Lott — her hits include ‘Mama Do (Uh Oh, Uh Oh)’ and ‘Boys and Girls’ — was announced for the part in May.

Peter Hewitt, who gave the world ‘Garfield’ and ‘Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey,’ will direct. Filming begins in Maryland and Ireland next month.

Stone recently did a four-episode guest arc on ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’ as A.D.A. Jo Marlowe.

Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall has said that she is set to receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Liverpool.
The British-born actress will be given the doctorate at a ceremony later this year at the university in North West England and she can’t wait to don the traditional cap and gown, reported Daily Mail online.

“I was born there and have a lot of family there. I can’t wait to get into a gown and wear one of those caps. Very sexy,” said Cattrall.

The 53-year-old actress is set to spend more time in Liverpool this autumn when she stars in a production of Antony and Cleopatra with Jeffrey Kissoon at the city’s Everyman theatre. Cattrall is looking forward to tackle the role of the iconic Egyptian queen. “Cleopatra’s such a fascinating woman to explore and I’m excited to get back to doing Shakespeare,” she said.

The actress claims parents are grateful for how the series approaches sex…

Sex And The City star Kim Cattrall has stated that she believes the hit TV series-turned-movie has helped parents talk to their children about sex.

The actress, who plays man-eater Samantha Jones revealed to The Daily Star that she was once confronted by a man in a supermarket who claimed to be grateful for SATC’s ability to approach sex.

Cattrall explained: “He said, ‘You know, you really made it possible for me to talk to my 18-year-old daughter about sex’,”

“That was lovely to hear, because it’s a big step for a young girl’s dad to be able to say to her, ‘You know that episode of Sex And The City.. that could happen to you, you know’.”

She added: “We had this nice talk but all the while I was thinking, ‘Why do we have to be having this talk at the fish counter?’”

Despite SATC2 receiving negative reviews, reports suggest that a third instalment of Sarah Jessica Parker and Co could be on the cards.

TWELVE years, 94 episodes and two blockbuster movies later, the ladies of Sex and the City, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon have decided to hang up their Monolos and call it an end.

After the second movie of the Sex And The City received disappointing reviews, Grazia reports that all plans for a third installment have been placed on hold, despite the cast’s optimism to have a trilogy of the flicks.

Sarah Jessica Parker recently said: “I hope Carrie will live on.”

And John Corbett said: “I think the girls are up for [another movie] and Michael Patrick King has lots of ideas.”

The second movie was surrounded with controversy after scenes set in Abu Dhabi being branded “borderline racist”.

In addition the movie was universally slammed by critics, Entertainment Weekly wrote a scathing review: “SATC 2 transformed four once mildly likeable characters into rancid, obliviously overentitled grotesques.”

The movie performed disappointingly at the box office, coming in third in the U.S on it’s opening weekend and taking in $37million (over R280 million) compared to the first movie which raked in $57million (over R435 million).

Sex And The City was based in part on writer Candace Bushnell’s book of the same name compiled from her weekly column in the New York Observer, with the show focusing on four big city professional women living their lives in New York City.

Samantha Jones, the luscious seductress in `Sex And The City, ` that hugely popular TV series, is her most famous role to date and Kim Cattrall is out claiming that she rejected the role thrice.

The 53-year-old star claims that when the role was offered to her, she had just turned 40 and had doubts whether she would be able to do justice to the role.

“I turned it down three times. I`d just turned 40. Or was it 41? Oh, who cares? Whatever age I`d turned, I thought, `I can`t do this. I can`t pull it off.’” Cattrall told a news daily.

She says that she was apprehensive because she thought there had never been a more daring character than Samantha Jones in the history of television, one who is fearless and followed her heart to the end. And a piece of advice from Jack Lemon helped, too.

“I felt that way because there had never been a character on TV as free as Samantha, and for an actress it can be quite daunting to play someone who has no fear of doing exactly what she wants, when she wants, and with whom she wants. But then I remembered something Jack Lemmon once said to me, `Kid, if something scares you, you should do it.` So I decided to take the part,” the actress said.

Kim Cattrall is clueless about men.

The ‘Sex and the City’ actress – who plays maneater Samantha Jones in both the TV series and on the big-screen – insists she doesn’t know much about the opposite sex and just accepts people for who they are. Kim – who has been married three times – said: “I’m dating again, but I know nothing about men. They remain a mystery to me, other than that they are predictable. I think a man shows you on the first date who he is, so that’s when you should be very aware. But I don’t think that you can change anybody. They are who they are. I think that’s the secret to a successful marriage, or a successful relationship, accepting the other person for who they are.”

The 53-year-old star also admitted she sometimes finds it tough being single but relies on her friends to get her through the hard times.

She told Parade.com: “I’m single at the moment, and sometimes you get very lonely being single. Sometimes it’s tough. It’s great to have girlfriends in my life that I can call, just like the characters do in Sex and the City. They get you through the rough times and you also have some amazing, fun times with them.”

Kim Cattrall can’t believe how many ‘Sex and the City 2’ posters she has seen.

The actress – who portrays man-eating businesswoman Samantha Jones in the TV series and films – is still shocked by the popularity of the franchise and finds it odd when she see pictures of herself plastered near her home in New York City.

She said: “It’s very difficult because I’m so inside of it, I struggle to have any objectivity. But when I arrived home – I’ve been in London doing a play for five months – there were posters everywhere I looked!”

The 53-year-old actress believes ‘Sex and the City’ has been such a success because the four main characters – who are portrayed by Kim, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon – are relatable to everyone.

She said: “I think what these characters represent, the four of them together, is one complete woman, and everyone is relatable. You understand how they work and how they think, but you don’t know completely what’s going to happen to them next.”

Kim has also praised New York – the city where the characters, Samantha, Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes and Charlotte York-Goldenblatt, mainly live – describing the Big Apple as the fifth girl.

She told Sky Showbiz: “I want New York to know that we’re here to stay. This is our city. With ‘Sex and the City’, I always thought the fifth girl was New York. So we can’t exist without New York.

“These girls came here from different parts of America, but they are distinct New Yorkers.”

Opening weekend grossed almost $9 million in Australia alone.

All over Perth ladies enjoyed champagne and movie launch parties, hitting the red carpet and getting dressed up in order to be Carried away.

Sex and the City 2 follows the hit television show’s characters on holiday to Abu Dhabi, and carries many cringe-worthy moments.

The leading ladies, played by Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon engage in some amazing costume changes, and whine their way through the film as they discuss how their lives have turned out – which is to say, exactly how they wanted their lives to turn out.

There is a flamboyant gay wedding, Liza Minnelli, poolside perving, Samantha behaving very badly, Samantha behaving badly again, Carrie being silly, some fun moments and plenty of fabulous fashion.

But the film fails to live up to the television series, which was more quick witted, socially relevant and clever.

That knowledge has not been enough to scare off audiences.

Samantha is a very strong and sexy character. How do you get the balance as an actor?
Kim: The most important thing is what you say because the audience is listening. You always have to be a little bit ahead of your audience, a little bit ahead of what’s happening in the news. For me to have this storyline of menopause is quite refreshing because it’s never really been done before. He has tackled something that is quite unique and for me to play it as an actress was just a delight.

Fashion was also quite exotic. Any favourites for you?
Kim: Oh! quite a few. I liked the bathing suits that were made; they were from a Turkish designer. I had a Japanese designer doing my finger nails. I loved specifically the colours because we were in such an exotic place and everything was hidden; and so these colours, stood out because everything else was quite dark and mysterious.

Has playing Samantha over the years in any way seeped into your real life?
Kim: No. I don’t think so. I see a very clear delineation between myself and Samantha. That doesn’t mean that I don’t love her. I do. And I love playing her. Although in some way, she has definitely influenced my fashion. But I’m not a character who lives in her world. I make a very clear definition of it when I go home, I’m Kim not Samantha.

The movie has influenced the world, including India. Is it the message, the look or the feel that let it go on for so long?
Kim: I think that there has never been enough for women about women’s lives, about how they really are and about how they really speak and communicate to one another. I think there have been men’s ideas about how women react and these are mostly due to fantasies of how men want women to react and speak. But it’s been such a relief for women all over the world to relate to something that is strong, truthful and real. It was like when women were waiting for the pill.
